The Partnership for Faith-Based Affordable Housing and Community Development is hosting the seminar “Who is My Neighbor?Mission-Driven Development, Affordable Housing and Your Congregation” on January 20, 2022 at 3:30pm that will answer these questions.
Who should attend?Congregational laity and clergy in New York City and throughout New York State.Housing advocates, community activists and neighborhood preservationists,developers, architects, attorneys……
The seminar will help your house of worship imagine how to use your physical, monetary, and social assets to best serve your neighbors, and assess your relationship with your surrounding community -while strengthening your congregation. This seminar will discuss ways to utilize your assets including energy initiatives, creative approaches to spaceuse and space rental, and affordable housing development - including access to technical support and potentially to forgivable pre-development loansto support viable affordable housing projects.
Houses of worship have long been staples of the community,providing emergency assistance, safe places to congregate, and other vital public services. Congregations work on many projects that serve a wider public– from food justice work to affordable housing development. The COVID-19pandemic has shown the importance of faith-based organizations more than ever with houses of worship stepping up for their communities in new ways. Over 50%of congregations expanded existing ministries or started new ones to help theircommunities!
