In 2022 and 2023, the New York State legislature passed a state constitutional amendment that creates new protections in our constitution against discrimination based on a person’s ethnicity, national origin, disability, age, and sex — including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive health care and autonomy. Because the constitutional amendment passed twice in the legislature, the public will have the opportunity to vote on the measure in 2024. While ensuring everyone in New York State has equal rights (we're all equally created in the Image of God after all!) shouldn't be controversial, there has been a great deal of fear-mongering regarding the NY ERA, not unlike when a federal Equal Rights Amendment nearly passed decades ago. Join Pastor Dustin and Rev. Peter Cook, Executive Director of the New York State Council of Churches, for an honest and open hybrid forum on the NY ERA.
