In light of the Adams and Hochul Administrations’ recent decision to expand 60-day shelter limits to DHS migrant family shelters, I am writing to invite you to join Councilmember Hanif, Councilmember De La Rosa, Councilmember Avilés, and Comptroller Lander for a rally to end shelter evictions next Wednesday, September 4th in Washington Heights. The rally will be held in:
The Turf Field at Audubon Park
550 W 170th Street, New York, NY 10032
On the day before the first day of school, City electeds, local advocates, and educators will gather to demand an end to Mayor Adams’ cruel and counterproductive 30/60-Day shelter eviction policy, which displaces vulnerable New Yorkers, including thousands of school-aged children. Please see flyers in English and Spanish attached.
CM Hanif’s office is looking to center directly impacted families, so if you are able to connect them to folks who are subject to the shelter evictions and who are interested in speaking, please contact Alex Liao (aliao@council.nyc.gov) to coordinate.
Thank you for your continued work in supporting our newly arrived New Yorkers. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.
In solidarity,
Jade Vasquez (she/her)
