Please join us for our next Capital District Border Watch meeting on Friday, April 12 at 4:00 at Albany Friends’ Meeting, 727 Madison Avenue. We will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the founding of CDBW in 2019.
During our March 26 meeting, Hayden Schwarz spoke about his work with our newest neighbors. He has set himself up to be responsive to providing newly arrived people with support to establish themselves and access community resources. he is looking for volunteers to help with transportation, translation, moving furniture, and other resources. He is prepared to provide training and support to volunteers. Capital District Border Watch has agreed to partner with him in doing a cell phone collection program. Hayden has identified that having a functioning cell phone is a critical resource that many newly arriving people need. Feel free to bring cell phones to our next meeting and we will be making a plan for drop off locations in the community.
We will share news from the border and news about asylum-seekers and other immigrants locally in the Capital District and make plans for our next actions.
There will be a report about the most recent asylum clinic and an update about the solidarity rally and lobbying for NY for All on April 15. See the announcement, below.
